A blood-curdling compendium of truly odd crimes featuring murderous witches, mad scientists, and killer dwarves
From the stomach-churning to the truly bizarre, the details of some of history’s weirdest and most shocking murder cases are collected in this enthralling volume. Covering criminals who all perpetrated crimes with a peculiar twist, the book includes Enriqueta Marti, who kidnapped children and then boiled away their flesh and crushed their bones to make ingredients for her lucrative “magic potions” and Randy Kraft—better known as the Scorecard Killer—who was a computer genius by day and a deranged psychopath along the California highways by night with more than 150 victims to his name. From high-profile murders to long-forgotten slayings, these are the world’s most peculiar crimes.

Read information about the authorJames Marrison is a best selling author, true crime writer and journalist . James first became interested in detective fiction having watched Murder my Sweet with Dick Powell when he was skiving off from school.
This passion for film noir and hard boiled fiction grew when he was lucky enough to study film noir at Amherst College whilst an undergraduate exchange student at The University of Massachusetts.
After graduating he lived in Izmir, Turkey for a year where he wrote his first novel which subsequently received 150 rejections!
In 1997, after completing a Masters in History at the University of Edinburgh he once again moved overseas to focus on writing.
He got his first break into journalism by writing features for "The Buenos Aires Herald": the oldest English language newspaper in Latin America.
While working as a journalist Marrison worked primarily as a freelancer and stringer for newspapers and magazines in the UK including "The Sun" where he specialised in Latin American news.
Besides his other writing work Marrison also used to be a regular contributor to "Bizarre Magazine" where he focused on true crime. While working for "Bizarre," Marrison interviewed some of the most eminent psychologists, criminologist and CSI investigators operating in their field today and wrote extensively about some of the world’s most notorious killers. It was after these experiences that he wrote "The World’s Most Bizarre Murders", which was first published in hardback and paperback in the UK and was later translated into Dutch and French.
During his free time he was working hard on writing novels and short stories and eventually managed to get a book deal thanks to his literary agent Helen Heller.
All three of the Downes detective novels were published by Penguin to high critical acclaim and were also released in Germany and the Czech Republic and the United States.
James is currently working on his next novel in Buenos Aires where he now lives.
